2007 Great Plains Super Launch

Getting around Grand Island

Grand Island is generally speaking easy to get around in. Unfortunately, not all of the roads run North/South East/West. It sort of grew up around an existing railway that sits at an angle and some of the roads parallel the railroad. A quick glance at a map of the city and you'll understand.

Friday's events will be at the Howard Johnson Riverside Inn, with Friday's evening meal location yet to be decided.

Driving in

From East or West, take Interstate 80. Grand Island is approximately 5 miles north of I-80, off the Howard Johnson Exit 314. Exit 312 onto US 281 will take you to other hotels, the shopping mall, etc.

Exit 312 is well known by the 'trucker' community. It is home to the Bosselman's Truck Plaza. Jokingly called Bosstropolis by a few of the locals.

From the North or South, US 281 passes through Grand Island.

Flying in

Grand Island is home to the Central Nebraska Regional Airport (GRI). There are a few air carrier flights daily on commuter size aircraft. Lincoln (LNK) is about an hour east of Grand Island on I-80, while Omaha (OMA) is about 2.5 hours east of Grand Island on I-80. Both Lincoln and Omaha have regularly scheduled flights on several of the airlines.
